🎥 How to create and trigger overlay popups
In ConvertFlow you can create different types of popup CTAs.
"Overlays" are popups that take over the visitor's browser window, to display your call-to-action.
Overlay popups are useful for promotions on your website that you need to draw attention to.
And with ConvertFlow's targeting conditions and trigger controls, you can always show your overlay popup at the perfect time.
Creating an overlay CTA
Click to create a CTA in ConvertFlow, scroll past the template category suggestions and you can choose to see templates for the "Overlay" CTA type.
Just click "See Templates" to get inspiration, or click "Create Blank CTA" to start from scratch.
Choosing an overlay template
Once you've clicked to see overlay templates, you'll be taken to the template gallery, filtered to see only overlay CTAs.
Browse and preview the various overlay templates to find the perfect CTA. You can also filter faster using the category filters on the left.
Once you've found the template you want, click "Use Template" and name your overlay CTA.
Customizing your overlay CTA
Once you've created your CTA, you'll be taken to the CTA builder.
Here you can quickly customize the CTA template. Edit the headlines, paragraph text, button text and form settings.

Adjusting the overlay CTA width
Each overlay CTA template will come with a default CTA maximum width.
This can be adjusted by clicking to the "Settings" tab in the builder panel.
Here you'll be able to control the maximum width of your overlay CTA, as well as the theme of the overlay's backdrop.
Controlling when the overlay triggers
In the "Settings" tab of the builder panel, scroll down to find the popup trigger settings.
Here you can choose the trigger type you want to use. Trigger types include:
Exit-Intent – Want your overlay to appear when the visitor moves their mouse to exit the page? This trigger type will detect their mouse movement to determine when to trigger the popup. On mobile devices, exit intent popups will trigger when the visitor clicks the back button in their browser.
Scroll Point – This trigger type let's you display your CTA when the visitor has scrolled to a certain percentage of the page. For example, you may want to trigger the popup 50% through a blog post.
Timed Delay – You can have your popup display X number of seconds after the page loads using this trigger type.
Upon Click Only – Need your popup to trigger only when a button is clicked? Using this trigger option, your popup can preload on the page and then trigger when a button is clicked. You can use either a ConvertFlow button linked to your popup CTA, or apply the given custom trigger class to any HTML content on your page that you'd like to trigger the popup upon clicking.
On-Site Message – Want to preface a larger popup with a small on-site message from a team member? Using this trigger type, you can have a small popup message appear in the corner the screen, that when clicked will trigger the full popup.
With every trigger type except "upon click only", you can adjust the trigger suppression setting. If you set trigger suppression to always show the popup, it will trigger the popup after the visitor has closed out the CTA. If you set it to hide for a number of days after closing, it will be suppressed until the given time has passed.
Previewing your overlay CTA
Once you're done making your edits, save and publish your changes. Then click to preview your overlay CTA.
Here you can control when and where your popup or sticky bar CTA displays on your website.
Launching as a standalone CTA
To launch your CTA as standalone campaign, add any targeting conditions needed to control which visitors should see this CTA, and then toggle the checkbox to activate the CTA campaign.
Once you've done this, the CTA will begin displaying on your website.
Confirming your CTA is displaying
With the ConvertFlow script placed on your website, and your CTA campaign launched, head to a page of your website where it should show.
Your popup or sticky bar CTA will trigger depending on the trigger settings you've set in the builder.
If your CTA isn't showing, click the blue ConvertFlow icon at the bottom left of your website to toggle the admin widget.
This helps you see what CTAs are targeting and why, or why not, by seeing which conditions were met.
